Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EMEs) serve the community by assisting
in the distribution of the Body and Blood at Mass. EMEs must be confirmed
members of the parish and must complete training before serving. If you are
interested in becoming an EME or you have questions or concerns, please contact
Corey Hilton at (313) 574-8023 (EME Coordinator and Worship Co-Chair).
As of Nov 1, 2008, EMEs may choose any weekend Mass time and day to volunteer to
serve. All EMEs serving at Mass must
sign in at the back of church.
Sign in will occur from 15 minutes before Mass until 5 minutes before Mass.
Volunteers may not get in line ahead of time, so that we do not cause anyone to
arrive excessively early to have an opportunity to serve. At five minutes before
Mass, Captains may recruit additional volunteers if needed.
Please adhere to the “honor system” so that all EMEs have
an equitable opportunity to serve! With the current number of EMEs,
there is an opportunity for each EME to serve approximately once a month. If
we are short for the day, at five minutes before Mass time you may in good
conscience volunteer even if you have served more frequently than once a month.
We especially need more EMEs at
Saturday 4:30 Mass and on
Holy Days.
(
Botsford Hospital is also in need of EMEs to volunteer for a couple of
hours a month. Please contact Kay Kermode (248) 476-4700 or Beth Pumo (734)
552-0889 if you are interested.)
A
Captain and Co-captain are scheduled for each Mass to set up and assist
with sign-up. These positions will be considered for experienced EMEs who are
capable and responsible in a leadership position. Captains and Co-captains must
attend special trainings and will be given written guidelines and
responsibilities.
A three-month schedule will be mailed to Captains and
Co-captains together with the lector schedule.
Sign-up sheets may be
announced for specific Masses, especially during holidays.
